SHIMANO Tekota 800 Reel

Shimano’s exciting new range of Tekota overhead levelwind reels are set to revolutionise the medium to heavy overhead market this coming season, and are packed with features traditionally found only on the company’s top-of-the line reels.
With extra strong gears and sensible retrieve ratios of 4.2:1, robust level winds, and super smooth Dartanium drag washers that release line without a hiccup, these reels are versatile enough to be used in a wide range of fishing situations, but they just might find their niche as braid reels. In fact, spooled with 50-80 pound gel spun, the TEK800 model in particular looks set to become a deepwater heavy braid weapon without peer.
The rubberised Septon CPD grip is extremely comfortable to use and the adjustable counter-balanced power handle means working a heavy jig or cranking in a big fish will not be a problem. Three of Shimano’s patented stainless steel A-RB bearings mean that winding is silky smooth, while back play in the winding mechanism is eliminated through the presence of a Super Stopper one way-roller bearing. A maintenance port on the reel permits in-the-field servicing if the need arises.
The aluminium spool, die-cast aluminium frame and one-piece aluminium handle sideplate mean Tekotas also make great casting reels. They can be hand-held all day if need be without fatiguing the angler.
Capacities for the reels’ chosen line classes are excellent, with the TEK500 taking 440 metres of six kilo, the TEK600 390 metres of eight kilo, the TEK700 410 metres of 12 kilo, and the TEK800 450 metres of 15. Naturally, these capacities are increased if gel spun line is used.
And of course, the entire Tekota range is backed by Shimano’s exclusive ten-year warranty, so what more could discerning anglers possibly want from a medium-heavy levelwind reel?
